October 2026 status: Pir Wadhai Adda is operating. In January 2026 the Punjab government approved a plan to move long-route bus terminals out of the city towards the Rawalpindi Ring Road, and in early October 2026 the Rawalpindi deputy commissioner announced a separate plan to modernise the Pirwadhai stand. No shifting date has been announced yet. Check with your bus company before you travel. Read the 2026 updates.

What is Pirwadhai Adda?

Pirwadhai is a busy union council in the north-west of Rawalpindi city, and its name has become shorthand for the General Bus Stand that sits there. The bus stand was moved from Liaquat Bagh to Pirwadhai in 1975, during Zulfikar Ali Bhutto's government. The move was so unpopular at the time that transporters went on strike for a week before the matter was settled.

Today the terminal covers roughly 280 kanals of land, according to the Rawalpindi district administration. Dozens of private transport companies run from it, from large operators such as Faisal Movers, Road Master and Skyways to regional companies that serve South Punjab, the Thal area, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Kashmir and the northern areas. Because it links so many routes, Pir Wadhai is often the cheapest place in the twin cities to find a seat to a smaller town that the premium operators do not cover.

The stand received a major upgrade in 2023. The district administration added separate booking counters for each route, cleared encroachments along the approach road, repaired the entrance and exit roads and introduced men's and women's waiting rooms and washrooms.

Pirwadhai bus terminal Rawalpindi location and directions

The terminal is in Pirwadhai, Rawalpindi, close to Pir Wadhai Mor on IJP Road (Islamabad Principal Road), the road that runs along the border between Rawalpindi and Islamabad's I-sectors. In Google Maps, search for "Pirwadhai General Bus Stand" or use the plus code J2JR+3CM Rawalpindi.

  1. From IslamabadHead for IJP Road and follow it towards Pir Wadhai Mor. From sectors such as I-8, I-9, I-10 and H-8 this is usually the most direct route.
  2. By Metro feeder busThe Islamabad electric feeder route FR-9 runs between Faizabad and Pirwadhai Morr, so you can connect from the Metro Bus at Faizabad. Confirm the current timings before relying on it late at night.
  3. From Saddar or Raja BazaarLocal wagons and Suzuki vans marked "Pirwadhai" run from the old city areas. A rickshaw or ride-hailing car is easier if you have heavy luggage.
  4. By Careem, InDrive or YangoSet the drop-off as your bus company's own terminal (for example "Road Master Terminal Pir Wadhai Mor" or "Crystal Lines Pirwadhai") rather than just "Pirwadhai", because some company terminals sit on the main road outside the general stand.

Map shows the general bus stand area. Company terminals are spread around Pir Wadhai Mor and Main Pirwadhai Road.

Pir Wadhai bus stop timing

The Pirwadhai General Bus Stand is open 24 hours a day, every day of the week. There is no single timetable for the whole adda, because each transport company sets its own departures. As a general pattern:

Short routes

Buses and coasters to nearby cities such as Peshawar and towns in north Punjab leave frequently through the day, often as soon as they fill up.

Long routes

Karachi, Multan and South Punjab services run on fixed times. Many leave in the afternoon or late evening so they arrive the next morning.

Busiest times

Friday evenings, Sunday nights, the days before Eid and the start of school holidays. Book a day or two ahead on these dates.

When to arrive

Reach the terminal 30 to 45 minutes before departure. Allow extra time for traffic on IJP Road at rush hour.

For the exact departure time of your bus, call the company directly using the numbers in the directory below.

Pirwadhai bus terminal: 2026 updates

Several decisions this year affect Pir Wadhai Adda. Here is what has happened so far, in order.

  1. January 2026: relocation plan approvedThe Punjab administration approved moving Pirwadhai and around 44 other public transport terminals, plus goods terminals, to sites near the Rawalpindi Ring Road. Under the plan, Pirwadhai would stay with the Punjab government as a hub for inter-district, intra-city and Rawalpindi–Islamabad routes, with local fares expected between Rs 20 and Rs 50.
  2. April 2026: temporary closurePublic transport in Islamabad and Rawalpindi was suspended on 19 April. Other routes reopened first, and Pir Wadhai Adda was reopened a few days later once the district administration restored full transport services.
  3. October 2026: modernisation planThe Rawalpindi deputy commissioner told a traders' delegation that the stand, spread over about 280 kanals, will be turned into a modern facility. Long-distance buses continue to operate from Pirwadhai while these plans move forward.

We will update this page when a shifting date or new terminal location is officially announced.

Pirwadhai, Faizabad or a company terminal: which one should you use?

Rawalpindi and Islamabad have several bus departure points, and the right one depends on your bus company. Pirwadhai is best for regional operators and smaller towns, and for budget fares. Faizabad is more convenient if you live in Islamabad or along the Murree Road side of Rawalpindi. Daewoo Express runs from its own terminal on GT Road near Jhangi Syedan rather than from Pirwadhai. Faisal Movers uses both its Pirwadhai counter and the Faizabad terminal, so always check which one is printed on your ticket.
