Islamabad to Hunza is the classic road trip north, following the Indus and then the Hunza river up the Karakoram Highway. It is the most practical bus option for reaching Hunza from anywhere in Pakistan, because most northern services start from the twin cities.

Bus timings

No published fixed timetable. Departures are more frequent in summer. Night departures arrive in Hunza the next day. Check faisalmovers.com for your date.

The route

The bus takes the Hazara Motorway to Mansehra, then either the Babusar Pass road (summer only) to Chilas, or the Karakoram Highway through Besham and Dasu. From Chilas it continues to Gilgit and up the KKH to Hunza, passing the Rakaposhi viewpoint.

Along the way: stops and landmarks

Main points along the way include Abbottabad and Mansehra on the Hazara Motorway, then either Naran and Babusar Top (summer) or Thakot, Besham and Dasu on the KKH. Both routes meet at Chilas, a common food stop. North of Chilas the bus passes Raikot Bridge (for Fairy Meadows), the three-mountain-ranges viewpoint near Jaglot, and Gilgit, before following the Hunza river past the Rakaposhi viewpoint to Aliabad.

Boarding and arrival points

Boarding in Islamabad

Board at the Islamabad terminal on Ghazali Road, GT Road (UAN 051-111-22-44-88), or in Rawalpindi if your ticket says so.

Arriving in Hunza

Faisal Movers stop in Hunza (Aliabad/Karimabad area). Check the stop on your ticket.

Choosing the right class

Choose the best seat available: the route is long, winding and often overnight. Seats in the middle of the bus are the most stable on mountain bends. If you are travelling in a group, booking together early in the summer season is essential.

Best time to travel

April brings blossom; June to September is peak season; October is famous for autumn colours. The Babusar route is open roughly June to October, which shortens the trip. In winter the KKH is the only route, and snow or landslides can cause long delays. Khunjerab Pass is usually open from May to November.

Arriving in Hunza: getting around

Hunza is the best-known valley in Gilgit-Baltistan, with Baltit and Altit forts, Attabad Lake, the Passu Cones and views of Rakaposhi and Ultar Sar.

Aliabad and Karimabad are the main towns. Local taxis and hired cars reach Attabad Lake, Passu, Hussaini Bridge and Khunjerab. Carry enough cash, as ATMs are few, and expect weak mobile data in places.

Step-by-step help: How to book a Faisal Movers ticket.

Before you travel: quick checklist

  • Original CNIC (B-Form for children). It must match the name on the ticket.
  • Ticket on your phone: keep the SMS or e-ticket screenshot; mobile data can be weak at terminals.
  • Reach early: 30 minutes before departure, 45 minutes on Eid and long weekends.
  • Luggage: label your bag; keep medicines, chargers and valuables in your hand bag.

Tips for this route

  • Babusar Pass is usually open only from about June to October.
  • Landslides can block the KKH after rain; keep a spare day.
  • Carry cash; ATMs are limited along the way.
  • Mobile signal is patchy north of Besham.

Safety, scams and family travel

Fake "Faisal Movers booking" numbers and WhatsApp accounts are common on social media. They take an advance payment by JazzCash, Easypaisa or bank transfer and never issue a ticket. Buy only through the official website, the Bookkaru app, the UAN 111-22-44-88 or a terminal counter, and never share an OTP, PIN or card number with a caller.

When travelling with children or elderly relatives, choose seats near the front (less motion, quicker exit at stops), carry snacks and medicines in hand luggage, and ask the hostess for help at the boarding door if someone needs assistance with steps.
